Marble-rama

While Ryan's parents were here in September, we met up with their Texas-based friends Anna Maria and JW and seven of their traveling companions. Anna Maria is originally from Italy and she took us all to meet her friend Bianca who is a sculptor, working primarily in marble. Bianca recently had a show at Henreux, a marble factory in Carrara, so we got to check out her work and tour the factory.

Europe is obviously not as lawsuit crazy as in the US as we walked around the factory grounds, got up close to heavy marble cutting machinery, dodged the pieces of swinging marble being lifted by the crane and more. No hard hats required. Inside on of the work areas, they were working on a marble staircase for a Chicago family living on W. Burton and we saw the blue prints.
